War Horse

by Ioanna

The film "War Horse" is a 2011 war drama directed by Steven Spielberg and written by Michael Morpurgo from England.

The film took place in Devon, England and it is about a friendship between a young boy, Albert Narracott (Jeremy Irvine) and his horse Joey, which his father Ted (Peter Mullan) and his mother Rose (Emily Watson) bought for their farm.  Albert was trying to learn his horse farm's works, such as ploughing, to avoid giving him away.  Unfortunately, a storm destroys the culture and Albert's father decides to sell the horse to the British cavalry and take him to France.  In France, after a disastrous fighting, Joey is captured by the Germans.  Finally he is returned back to British lines, where Albert is a soldier in the war, his resolution to find his horse.  Despite, he was temporary blind by gas, he recognize his old friend Joey and safe him from the death.

When Albert cured, he find out that all the horses have to be sold.  He accepts funds from the other soldiers to get back his lovely horse but a French man buy him.  When the man realizes that Albert is the owner, he return it to him.  Final, Albert and Joey get back in Devon, to their family!!

I chose War Horse, because it is a touching movie.  It is based on the World War I and for this reason is offers a number of memorable moments about the negative consequences of any war.  My favorite scene in the film is when Albert, even he was temporary blind, manage to recognize Joey.

I recommend to my classmates to watch "War Horse", especially them who really like war movies.  It give us a hope that if  we really want to achieve something in our lives, we can make it happen after great effort.

Les Misérables - A film you must definitely watch!

If you love drama, like I do, and are planning to go to the movies during the coming weeks, here is something interesting to watch and enjoy: Les Misérables! It is a musical drama film directed by Tom Hooper. The music is composed by Claude-Michel Schönberg and the cast includes star actors like Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe and  Anne Hathaway. The film is based on the well known French novel by Victor Hugo. It is the story of Jean Valjean (Hugh Jackman), a prisoner released on parole from a French prison. He breaks his parole and tries to start a new life, while running away from inspector Javert (Russell Crowe). He shows his altruism when he takes care of Fantine (Anne Hathaway) and Cosette, her daughter. The final part of the story takes place during the June Rebellion, with young schoolboys fighting against slavery. I think the plot is truly emotional as the characters express their strong feelings with their songs, which, by the way, were recorded live, on stage. The music really reaches your soul . You live every moment and feel the drama of every scene. No wander the film was one of the box office hits of 2012, with total earnings reaching $429 million.

Think like a man

Think like a man is a romantic comedy film based on the book: “Act like a lady think like a man”. The book is about how women can accomplish what they want from men and also writes tips. At the begging all women bought this book and they follow the tips. After that, we saw four men who are friends. They were four different types of men, "the mamma’s boy", the "non- committer", "the dreamer" and "the player". One day when they were talking they understood that their girlfriends were following the tips of the book and then they bought the book and they could predict the behavior of their girlfriends. So they knew what their girlfriends wanted in each case. Men had the "game" until girls discovered that their boyfriends had the book and all their acts were “fail”. Then they quarrel and they divided. At the end they reunite.Although that film has the all the elements of a standard romantic comedy I think that is not the same with the other movies because of the nice plot and the cast. At this film also we saw Chris Brown as an actor. I recommend you to watch this film because it’s a great film especially for young people.

Philippos favourite film: "Green Street Hooligans"

‘Green Street Hooligans’ is a 2005 English drama/crime movie directed by Lexi Alexander. The story tells us about Matt Bucker (Elijah Wood), an American college student who was studying journalism in Harvard University. Unfortunately for him just two months before his graduation he gets expelled not by his fault but due to the fact that his roommate set him up.
Therefore, Matt decides to visit his sister (Claire Forlani) that lives with her British husband (Marc Warren) and their newborn child.
When Matt finally does arrive in London, he goes out on a football-only night with his brother-in-law's brother Pete (Charlie Hunnam). As Shannon and Steve (Marc Warren) were having a romantic dinner all alone, Pete used to hang out with various friends who are called "the Green Street Elite" and are passionate fans of the West Ham United football club.
Without even noticing, Matt began entering the malicious world of English hooliganism. Despite that our main actor is about to learn things that any university could not teach as he now learns how to fight, self-esteem and mainly he learns how to support his friends often defying the horrific consequences.
To sum up, I would strongly recommend this movie to my classmates as it can be a really touching and teaching movie even for people who don’t share a passion for football. Finally this is a movie that reveals us that love and brotherhood that cannot be achieved without frightful costs.

Memento (2000)

MEMENTO
 Andreas Moyseos
Memento is a 2000 American psychological thriller film written and directed by Christopher Nolan, adapted from his younger brother Jonathan's short story "Memento Mori".

Plot : The story follows Leonard who is an insurance investigator whose memory has been damaged following a head injury he sustained after intervening on his wife's murder. His quality of life has been severely hampered after this event, and he can now only live a strange life by tattooing notes on himself and taking pictures of things with a Polaroid camera. The movie is told in forward flashes of events that are to come that compensate for his unreliable memory, during which he has links with various complex characters. Leonard wants revenge for his wife's murder, but, as numerous characters explain, there may be little point if he won't remember it in order to provide closure for him. The movie focuses between these future occurrences and a telephone conversation Leonard is having in his motel room in which he compares his current state to that of a client whose claim he once dealt with...
The reason i chose this film is because it is a great film and put you in a situtation to think a lot. I am sure that people with taste in movies will be enjoy it.

I have seen this film about a year ago and it was amazing!  I don't usually watch action films but this one was perfect.  The film's plot was very clever and not out of reality.

I chose this film because I think it is a very nice film, and those who like action should watch it.

I recommend this film to my classmates because I think they would like it based on action, good plot and of course happy end!
