Christina's Favourite Film:

The pursuit of happyness

"The pursuit of happyness" is a 2006 American biographical drama film based on the story of Chris Gardner. At the beginning of the film we meet our characters Chris Gardner who is played by Will Smith and Christopher his son who is played by Will Smith’s son Jaden Christopher Smith. Chris tries to sell some medical scanners for his living but nobody is buying them so he struggles for money and his wife abandons him. But Chris insists that Christopher their son stay with him.  While trying to sell one of his scanners Chris meats Dean Witter and he is impressed by Chris when he solves a Rubik cube while riding a cab. So Chris gets an internship as a stockbroker which is an unpaid while trying to spend as little money as possible on food and expenses. As a result of not having enough money Chris and Christopher get kicked out of their apartment and they become homeless. They have to sleep in many places like in the toilet of a subway station and various shelters. After many struggles Chris manages to get the job as a stockbroker and in the end he becomes a successful businessman.

The title of the movie is also the meaning, you have to pursuit happiness and you will finally find it after time and work. I love this movie because every time I watch it I feel happy and hopeful. My favorite scene in this movie is when Chris manages to repair one of his scanners so he could sell it to get by a little longer. I would recommend this movie to my classmates because it is a very touching movie. It gives you hope that if you work hard enough you can change your future and you can achieve your dreams.

  1. Hi Christina,

Your film seems really touching and very interesting and I would like to watch it. However I want to ask you for something... How was Christopher ( Chris son) feeling when his mum abandoned them and when they became homeless? Because as a child he lived a lot of changes in to his life isn't it?

    Best wishes

    1. Hello Victoria,

Christopher felt as if it was his fault that his mum left but Chris explained to him that it wasn't his fault but his mother's. When they became homeless Christopher didn't really understand what it meant to be homeless because he was too young. He felt afraid on the first night they became homeless but his father tried to sugar coat the truth .Yes as a child Chris lived with a lot of changes in his life but he always had a stable thing in his life, his father.

      Best wishes,
      Christina

  2. Hello Christina,

I really like the review of the film!I find it very interesting and touching! What about the mother of the boy? Why the boy didn't stay with his mother? Was his own decision?

    1. Hello Chrystalla,

The mother didn't really care about Christopher because she was tired of the life she had and she wanted a new life. Also, Chris wanted to Christopher to stay with him because he had met when he was 28 years old and he didn't want the same thing to happen to his son. So he was adamant that he raises his son.

      Best wishes,
      Christina
