Chrystalla's favourite film: The Mask of Zorro

The Mask Of Zorro

A film that I really enjoyed is "The mask of Zorro". It is an action, adventure and also a love story film. It is an American film which is directed by Martin Campbell  in 1998. Some of the most famous actors, star in the film are Antonio Banderas, Antony Hopkins and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
The plot of the film is exciting and the action is fast. It is about an old man, the original Zorro who was in prison for 20 years and he escaped in order to find his daughter Elena and also to take a revenge for the death of his wife. His wife was killed by his enemy who is the satanic local governor. The old man trained Alejandro, in order to carry out his task. Alejandro is the hero of the film who uses the Mask of Zorro and his costume and struggles against the establishment, which is represented by the satanic local governor.
However one of the most memorable thing in the film is the flirt between Elena and the younger Zorro. There are also lots of fantastic battle scenes especially the ones Banderas fights with his sword. The actors and actress are so real and convincing. They all were dressed in impressive traditional costumes.
In conclusion, I really liked this film and I would definitely recommend it to my classmates because it made a great impression on me. It is an amusing adventure and entertaining as well.

Victoria's favorite film: Jack and Jill

Jack and Jill

“Jack and Jill” is a 2011 comedy film starring Adam Sandler. “Jack and Jill” was directed by Dennis Dugan and distributed by Columbia Pictures.

Adam Sandler plays the role of a very successful man, named Jack Sadelstein, who was working in an advertising company in Los Angeles.  Jack was married with Erin (Katie Holmes) and they had two children, Sophie and Gary.  Jack also had… an identical twin sister, named Jill (also Adam Sandler).  One day, Jill decided to visit her brother’s family and stay with them for holidays.  This arrival made Jack’s quiet life upside down.  Instead of that, a donuts commercial manager demanded from Jack to get Al Pacino for an advertisement.  Furthermore, when Al Pacino met Jill, he fall in love with her, while she was not.  Because the advertisement for donuts was very important for Jack, he dressed up as Jill and visited Pacino pretending her.  During the meeting Jack had a call from Jill which made him feel guilty, so he decided to reveal the truth to Pacino.  Jack wanted to apologize to his sister, and finally he found her and using their twins’ language Jack and Jill showed their fraternal love to each other.

During this film you realize that twins’ language is not just few funny moments, but it’s also a twins’ secret and a way that only twins can communicate with it.  I have chosen to suggest to my classmates this film because I believe that it’s a really good family comedy with lot of laugh.  So if you want to have funny moments watching a film, in my opinion, “Jack and Jill” is a very good choice.

Seven Pounds is a 2008 film starring Will Smith. Will Smith's character is called Tim Thomas, who was writing a text message while driving and caused an accident in which seven people died, one of them being his fiancee, Sarah.
From the guilt he feels about what he caused he sets out to save seven people's lives that needed physical help and were in danger. So he steals the identity of his brother who is an IRS agent and claimed to be just that in order to get information on people he thought really deserved a better life.He donates his lung lobe to his brother, a part of his liver to a social worker called Holly, a kidney to a man called George that is a junior hockey coach, a bone marrow to a young boy named Nicholas. Tim moves into a motel and gives the deed and keys to his beach house to an abused woman named Connie and her two children.   Seven Pounds is a movie with deep meaning who you should all watch, it opens your mind to how your whole life can change in a split second and how you choose to evolve around something tragic and turn it into something that can save so many people's lives.
The title "Seven Pounds" represents the seven people Tim killed, each weighing a pound on his head, "weighing" him down with guilt. A movie filled with profound emotions which all of us can connect too and a wonderful aspect of how beautiful we can all be on the inside. Seven Pounds based on a script by Grant Nieporte under Columbia Pictures.

Albert's review of the film "The Man from Earth"

                                       The Man from Earth

It's  a film directed by Richard Schenkman and written by Jerome Bixby. It's about a man who invites h friends into his house just before he leaves. The invitation was made, because the protagonist, John Oldman (David Lee Smeeth)as a historian on the film, wanted to have a last conversation with his co-workers on the field of science, the names of the invited people were the following: Dr. Will Gruber(Richard Riehle)as the psychiatrist, Harry(John Billingsley) as the biologist, Dan (Tony Todd) as an anthropologist, Art(William Katt)as a historian, Edith(Ellen Crawford)as an art expert, Linda(Alexis Thorpe) as a college student. John, started  the conversation by asking the following question:  “What if a man from the upper Paleolithic survived  until the present time” that question  was the start of an astonishing dialogue between the leading actor, and the rest of the actors within the room. Everyone was stating his/her own opinion ,mainly based on their academic knowledge, but also on their experience, for instance Harry the biologist, regarding to the possibility of someone being able to live more years than most humans, says “Waste accumulates, eventually proves fatal to function. Now if a quirk in his immune system led to perfect detox…” After a certain point of the conversation, John started claiming of being that kind of man in other words, an immortal, the rest of the group was quite skeptical and unwilling to accept the thought of John being a deathless person. Slowly, as the conversation was progressing, John's friends started believing his well-formed arguments about his true identity, probably because his great historical knowledge offered a great advantage on doing that. But, there was a moment when John was trying to present himself as  great figure of history and religion of the world, that someone was Jesus, and right at that time, John's friends and especially Edith, started being disturbed  of what she have heard, because she was religious. The conversation continues and it ends with a surprisingly admirable story.

The reason that made me chose the film:

This film shows how powerful and profitable can knowledge be, especially when you're using it for your own sake. It has elements of science fiction, philosophy, biology etc that made the plot of the film quite interesting for the viewer to listen to what the actors had to say about the subject. It's also nice to see a film making such a good job with a low budget, essentially there 8 actors in a small room having a sophisticated conversation without the stereotypical visual & sound effects. One of the crucial  messages that this films delivers to the audience is how important life is to humans,to the moral creatures. It has basically elevated the value of life, to a point that somehow, it has deeply inspired the viewer towards to the appreciation of life.

The reason why I am recommending this film to my classmate is the following:

Those who love films in general, and especially  science fiction movies, they should watch “The Man from Earth" because it offers a well written plot with the support of the fine acting that the actors have done. It could immediately, make you interested to know what John as the apologist of his position has to say about it, but in the meanwhile you'll be  wanting to hear & see about  what the friends of John's are going to say or even do. The style of this specific  film, might look quite dissimilar to the  regular, typical  sci-fi films. However, it leaves you with a notion of satisfaction. As a result of the extraordinary scenario, you  will stay on the edge of your seat. The main structure of this film is the dialogue, they have invested a lot on that matter, people who are looking for a nicely done, and rich dialogue, this is the right film. So, it has to do with your film  preferences, and priorities, whether you do prefer to watch a semi science fiction film or not, and which kind of sci-fi films you find likable to spectacle.
